As social distancing restrictions slowly begin lifting, many pool owners are eager to throw a pool party and see some long-lost friends in real life. Remember, outdoor gatherings are a safer way to still maintain some social distance, and even the CDC states that chlorine inactivates coronavirus in the water. That’s a green light for a pool party! And if you’re still being cautious, there’s no reason to miss out on the fun; just gather your quaranTEAM for a family pool party!

Either way, just be sure to make it extra epic with these 7 tips for throwing an amazing pool party.

#1 – Set A Theme

A truly fun and memorable pool party is more than just inviting friends over to hang out. A theme makes any party more festive. Bright and tropical flowers, flamingos, and tiki torches are readily available this time of year, as are more subtle seaside and beach decor if you’re having an elegant adult party. Other themes to consider: casino/game night, sports, movies, mermaids, rubber duckies, or even Baby Shark if you’re planning a pool party for kids!

#2 – Send Cool Invites

You can mail paper invitations, or send a digital invite from a website like evite. They have several free pool party designs to choose from, and even more premium designs so you’re sure to find something that fits your theme.

#3 – Eat, Drink & Decorate

Head on over to Pinterest and input your theme + “pool party,” and you will be served up endless ideas for food, drinks, decor, games, and more. You can get crazy here, but you really don’t have to! The important thing is to keep people hydrated (especially for day parties in the sun), and serve a variety of snacks. If your party is during lunch or dinner, plan to serve real food or have something delivered. If it’s an adult pool party, consider a yummy signature drink that ties into your theme!

When it comes to decor, stick with your theme and make it fun. Guests should be able to instantly recognize the theme based on how the pool area is decorated. You might even want to have some photo props and accessories with a cool backdrop, as you’ll definitely want to snap some pics with friends who you haven’t seen in 3 months.

#4 – Stock Up On Floats, Toys, & Games

Pool floats and toys go flat, get moldy, and fade in the sun. So out with the old, and in with the new, when it comes to throwing a serious summer bash! The sky’s the limit when it comes to choosing new toys, but if you’re still trying to maintain some social distance, avoid giant ride-ons and multi-person floats.

#5 – Build A Party Playlist

No pool party is complete without some summer jams! Build your own personal playlist of music you and your friends love, or just hit play on a curated pool party playlist, like this one on Spotify. This is also a great opportunity to beef up your outdoor sound system with some new waterproof Bluetooth speakers.

#6 – Have An Essentials Station

Set up a table with bug spray, sunscreen, and baby wipes to clean hands. Also set out disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer to give guests peace of mind and an easy way to clean their hands.

#7 – Don’t Skimp On Seating

Not everyone is going to be in the pool at all times. Make sure to have plenty of chairs, chaises, and tables. Or, ask guests to BYOC (bring your own chair).
